Counselling/Psychotherapy. Counselling is a process that involves skills of caring, listening and prompting and a way of relating to another person and enabling that person to explore his/her own thoughts, feelings, behaviours, reactions/responses, to reach a clearer self-understanding and self-awareness. That person is then helped to find and use his/her strengths so that he/she can cope more effectively with his/her life and environment to then move towards making appropriate decisions and progressing towards maintaining a healthier, happier and balanced way of life within the self, the environment & significant others within their life, in a very powerful and effective way. Psychotherapy is the application of psychological principles to the treatment of those suffering from issues that are exacerbated by various psychological factors.
What is hypnosis and how it works? Very simply, hypnosis is a "focalising of attention" that all of us have experienced many times before. E.g., have you become so engrossed in a computer game/book/film etc., and lost track of time? Or when driving a car, cannot recall parts of the journey? It Is a natural mind state. Some people are often surprised at how natural they feel in hypnosis (as some still believe or even expect to be "unconscious", "asleep", "unaware" or "out of control" of what is happening.) In reality, only the experience of just sitting with eyes closed, being CONSCIOUSLY aware, and relaxed is experienced rather than the therapist in some commanding, controlling, or dictatorial manner. Once attained, then any faulty programming (through negative thoughts, experiences, events, circumstances, emotions etc.,) can be carefully updated, modified and improved with excellent positive therapeutic results benefiting both adults and children.
