PROFILE:

Greetings. I am a state registered nurse who changed direction and trained in Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and bereavement counselling. I use a number of approaches to problem resolution, client centred and cognitive therapy. I attended workshops by Dr. Christine Padesky who founded the "MIND OVER MOOD" therapy where thoughts, beliefs systems, and assumptions can keep a person locked in negative thinking and behaviour, working with changing the thought to change the feeling and the mood.

Hypnotherapy is the means of connecting to the subconscious part of the mind, guiding the conscious self to change the blocks that may prevent a person from being all that they were born to be, their full potential. Scripts given in the early years , imprints that may still be activated in the adult self, i.e., "YOU ARE STUPID," "YOU ARE A FAILURE" or THE CLEVER ONE", raising expectations to succeed, some people fear failure, others fear success.

Hypno-healing heals old emotional wounds from the past, the client in hypnosis plays an active part in healing both at the physical and emotional level. Symptoms such as "phantom Pain" (pain following amputation of a limb) respond successfully to this hypnotic approach. Eating disorders, Anorexia, Bulimia and binge eating is an area I specialise in, following workshops at St. Georges Hospital, London given by Prof. Crisp, the author of a number of books on Eating Disorders.

Hypnotherapy is effective in a number of Depressive illnesses.

Anxiety/Depression. In the hypnotic trance the client can set goals for the future, moving away from the past that has them stuck, through motivation and determination and energising the thought processes to be more logical and productive and creative. Creating a future that is more the way the client would like to be, using creative visualization. Before any book is written, or marvellous picture is painted there is the image in the artist's mind.

Michael Yapko has written on the power of creating our dreams and using small steps to achieve the goal, the mountaintop, every journey begins with the first step. Taking that first step to heal the mind takes courage and focus. Hypnosis enables the client to break down barriers and achieve their goal.

Psychotherapy. In analysis the client discovers how they became the person they are, the place in the family, were they emotionally close to any member of the family. What was the family's belief system, looking at early memories? Relationships begin to lay down patterns for the future. We learn from our parents how to relate to others, our future relationships, our relationships in places of work, the type of career we may have chosen, to please, to rebel, or to be just like them. Often it is in our early years that we are wounded emotionally and carry the scars to adulthood. Feelings of anger repressed can lead to depression and stress. I work with the "Inner Child", having attended seminars at the LCCH (London College Clinical Hypnosis). I use Regression therapy taking the adult back to events in the past, healing the hurts and rescuing the child from the traumatic experience.

Children's issues, such as school phobia possibly following a bullying experience, is an area I find most satisfying. I work with children through bereavement counselling. Many children have fears and phobias, such as the fear of needles and blood, which can make it difficult for them to attend hospitals, clinics and biology classes at school. By working on the release of fear in creative visualization and building confidence and determination they recover their self-esteem. Anxiety may manifest itself in bed-wetting, nail biting and inability to concentrate or sleep well.

I treat clients with the following conditions: Panic Attacks. Phobias. Depression. Eating Disorders. Poor body image. Lack of confidence. Exam Fears. Driving Test Nerves. Public speaking; Children's issues. Relationship difficulties. Dental fears. Smoking release. Stress. Insomnia. Fear of flying.

I have deeply held Christian beliefs and have a holistic approach to all my clients' needs, spiritual, emotional and physical. My aim is that through therapy I can enable a fellow human being to live their life in a fuller, creative and peaceful way. Look forward to meeting you on your journey. Tessa.
